Research shows that exercise is key for physical, mental & emotional health.  But many of us struggle to find the time & energy to exercise on a regular basis.


Here are some tips to jumpstart your exercise habit:


Set a Goal:

The first step towards creating a habit and sticking to it is to set a goal(s) and determine how you will measure your progress.

You should set both:

(1) Process goals: miles/minutes of exercise daily • type of exercise • habit changes (eg taking the stairs)

(2) Outcome goals: ensure they are realistic and healthy (no more than 1-2 lbs weekly is recommended) • specific for weight loss/endurance/strength


Have a Workout Buddy:

Research shows that having a partner improves your success in weight loss/healthier lifestyle. The key however is that both you & your partner should be equally dedicated to your weight loss journey which often boils down to WHY you both want to loose weight/change lifestyle habits.  Having an open & frank discussion about your ‘why‘s’ can help each of you hold each other accountable when motivation wanes.

Tip: If you don’t have a reliable partner, there are many personal trainers who have shared their love for fitness on the world wide web for free. Two of our favorite trainers are Caroline Jordan and Kayla Itsines - check out their YouTube videos!


Practice Consistency:

Even small changes in your daily habits can make leaps in your progress towards being a HEALTHIER YOU! The key to habit formation is consistency - remember the 21/90 rule: it takes 21 days to form a habit, and 90 days to develop a lifestyle. If you get off schedule, get back on quickly - don’t waste time making excuses for why it’s too hard or not worth it. Your health is worth it!
