Categorized To-Do Lists:

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been overwhelmed by your to-do list! Don’t feel bad - we’ve all been there before (some of us on a daily basis). To-do lists are like a double-edged sword — on one side it can be motivating to see all your tasks laid out and on the other it can be daunting. The key to making an effective to-do list is to CATEGORIZE the tasks. Grouping the tasks into categories (e.g. home, work, health) makes the list more manageable and also tailors your attention/time/energy.


Eisenhower Matrix:

Okay, so now you have your to-do list but how you do figure out what to tackle first? In a 1954 speech, Eisenhower quoted an unnamed university president who said, “I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent.” Over 3 decades later in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey repackaged Eisenhower’s insights into a simple tool to prioritize tasks, now known as the Eisenhower Matrix.  This framework for PRIORITIZATION helps you eliminate time-wasters and create more mental space to make progress on your goals.


Pomodoro Technique:

Now your to-do list is created, categorized and prioritized and you’re ready to get sh*t done ... but you still feel overwhelmed/distracted/unmotivated! Try the Pomodoro Technique which capitalizes on the sense of urgency and utilizes TIMING. Rather than allowing yourself to feel  like you have endless work hours in the day to get things done, this technique limits you to set period of time to progress on a particular task.
